The Yemeni riyal continued to collapse against foreign currencies, as its exchange rate against the Saudi riyal exceeded the barrier of 400 Yemeni riyals, while it was sold in the markets this evening, Saturday, for 402 Yemeni riyals to the dollar.
The exchange rate of the Yemeni riyal against the US dollar reached 1,500 Yemeni riyals per dollar, which is its highest level ever.
This successive collapse of the Yemeni currency comes in light of the continuing economic crisis, the cessation of oil exports in the country, and political instability.
This collapse raised widespread fears of the worsening economic crisis in the southern governorates and Yemen, its impact on the purchasing power of citizens, and the increase in poverty and unemployment rates.
Humanitarian and human rights organizations called on the concerned authorities to take urgent measures to stop the collapse of the Yemeni currency and protect citizens from its consequences.
