The Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Maqbi, gave the World Bank a presentation on Monday, October 28, 2024, on the priorities for developing the monetary sector in Yemen.
This came during his meeting with the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in the recognized Yemeni government, Waed Badib, in Washington, and the Vice President of the World Bank for the Middle East and North Africa, Ousmane Dion, according to the Yemeni news agency, Saba (official).< /p>
In the meeting devoted to discussing ways to enhance cooperation and sustainable development between Yemen and the World Bank, Al-Maqbi stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of the digital payments project in cooperation with the World Bank.
In turn, Minister Badib reviewed the challenges facing Yemen and the opportunities available for development, and a comprehensive vision for restructuring existing projects financed by the Bank’s International Development Association and developing implementation mechanisms in a way that enhances the development impact.
He pointed out the importance of adopting a balanced approach between emergency response and sustainable development, with a focus on increasing investment in human capital, enhancing institutional resilience, supporting productive economic sectors, and developing and allocating independent infrastructure projects, especially the water, transportation, and energy sectors.
The official agency stated that the World Bank official, in turn, praised the efforts of the Yemeni government in supporting and facilitating the implementation of development projects and strengthening the partnership with the World Bank, stressing the Bank’s commitment to supporting Yemen in its development endeavors, especially in the areas of job creation and economic transformation.< /p>
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing on the importance of strengthening the World Bank’s presence in Yemen and increasing field missions to Aden and other governorates, while emphasizing the government’s readiness to provide all necessary facilities.
