Deputy Director of Aden Security, Abu Bakr Jabr, warned expatriates in the Gulf countries about transferring money to Yemeni regions through illegal means, in order to avoid falling into the trap of fraudulent operations that have increased recently.
Jabr said, in a post on Facebook: “We issue a warning to all our expatriate brothers against transferring money illegally to avoid the remittance tax under the name ‘commission’, as reports have been received from several expatriates who have been subjected to scams in which gangs have deceived them into believing that they must... Come to receive the money in the country in which they are located, and upon meeting with the victim, the gang members threaten him and steal his phone, so that a forged message is sent to his agent. In Aden or any liberated governorate, you tell him that the amount has been received, which usually exceeds hundreds of thousands of foreign currencies, but, in fact, the expatriate has not received any amount.”
Jabr indicated that after the expatriate's agent receives the message, he transfers the amount through money exchange shops to the gang members behind these fraudulent operations, until the victim eventually discovers that he has been subjected to a comprehensive fraud.
Jabr confirmed that immediately after receiving the reports, the necessary security measures were taken to arrest some of the gang members, explaining that investigations are still ongoing, and upon completion, those involved will be referred to the Public Prosecution and the judiciary to hold them accountable in accordance with the law.
He also stressed the need for expatriates to adhere to legal and legitimate money transfer methods to preserve their money and not fall prey to inhumane fraud.
Jabr explained that this warning is tantamount to a “clearance of liability,” and that its aim is to inform expatriates of these fraudulent methods that must beware, while emphasizing the necessity of following legal and legitimate methods in transferring money to preserve their rights and money earned through their toil and effort.< /p>
