The Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, Mr. Ahmed Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Boom, announced an extraordinary meeting with a team from the World Bank headed by the Regional Director of the International Finance Corporation, Mr. Aftab Ahmed, in the temporary capital, Aden.
During the meeting, the economic developments in Yemen and the effects of the current difficulties and challenges facing the country were reviewed, as well as the vital role played by the international community in mitigating the effects of the current crisis on the economic and humanitarian levels.
The progress of the payment systems development project funded by the World Bank was also discussed during the meeting, which will provide technical support and necessary equipment to develop the payments infrastructure with the aim of enhancing the ability to benefit from financial technology and enhancing the efficiency of financial operations.
The meeting touched on a comprehensive program to reform the Yemeni banking sector, where the representative of the World Bank praised the Central Bank’s commitment to abide by its obligations to the International Finance Corporation, which helped continue financing many humanitarian and development projects in Yemen since 2015.
