The Central Bank in Sanaa, which is under the control of the Houthis, announced, in a statement on Tuesday evening, the start of withdrawing the old layer of the cash currency, in the areas controlled by the legitimate government, days after the decision of the Central Bank of Yemen in the temporary capital, Aden, in this regard.
The Sanaa Central Bank announced, in the statement, the start of what it said was “compensating” the amounts of currency of the old edition circulating in areas under the control of legitimacy, “with the equivalent real values in the “new” currency that the Aden Central Bank printed years ago, which the militias consider to be an illegal currency. Legal.
The compensation mechanism described by the Central Bank of the Houthis is as follows:
1- This mechanism will be implemented starting from Saturday, 02/12/1445 AH, corresponding to 06/08/2024 AD, and continuously until further notice.
2- Compensation operations are carried out during official working days from Saturday to Wednesday (from 8 am to 2 pm).
3- Compensation points are located in the following places:
- Al-Rahida Customs Control Center - Taiz Governorate.
- Afar Customs Control Center - Al-Bayda Governorate
Any other points will be announced later.
In the fourth item, the Sana’a Centers said that the old currency will be “compensated” with the corresponding currency issued by the Aden Centers according to the market prices shown on the information board announced at the compensation points (he did not clarify it).
With regard to the amount allowed to be compensated from the old currency as follows:
- The amount of 3 million riyals or less, will be compensated directly as soon as the amount reaches the compensation point.
- Amounts exceeding 3 million riyals, “must Obtaining prior approval to complete the compensation process from any of the approved compensation points by having the compensation applicant fill out the disclosure form stipulated in Articles (23, 24) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism Law, and send it on the working day preceding the compensation process to the address Sana'a Centers' email.
