The Governor of Socotra, Engineer Raafat Al-Thaqali, today chaired an emergency meeting in the security committee in the governorate to review the preparations and measures taken to confront the tropical storm “Tej”, which is expected to pass near the governorate on Sunday.
The meeting emphasized strengthening preparations, forming rescue teams from security and military services at the archipelago level, and communicating with the joint operations room in the governorate for emergency situations.
Governor Al-Thaqali directed the Office of the Ministry of Tourism and tourism agencies to secure tourists in hotels to preserve their safety, as well as to enhance the readiness of Sheikh Khalifa Hospital and health centers to receive emergency cases.
In addition, Governor Al-Thaqali, along with members of the Security Committee, were briefed on the process of opening and widening the narrow sewers in Khor Dasrhan, Khor Hadibu, the Fish Market, and Wadi Dahmis, opening sea passages, and finding urgent solutions to ensure the smooth movement of torrents and rainwater expected to flow due to the tropical situation in Tej.
Governor Al-Thaqali praised the cooperation provided by the brothers in the United Arab Emirates, along with the local authority, to overcome emergency circumstances, by equipping rescue and civil defense teams and providing the necessary mechanisms for the process of opening waterways and other necessary interventions in such exceptional circumstances.
Al-Thaqali stressed the preparation of the required equipment and mechanisms, preparing the workers on board, and linking them to the joint operations center in the governorate, which in turn will direct them to the locations that need interventions during and after the passage of the tropical condition that is expected to turn into a hurricane.
