This evening, elements of Al-Qaeda launched a surprise attack on the positions of the Security Belt Forces in Wadi Omran in Mudiyah District, Abyan Governorate. 

The attackers used rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns in an attempt to target the southern forces, but the latter responded forcefully to the sources of fire, leading to violent clashes that ended with the defeat of the terrorist elements and their escape.

The southern forces, reinforced with additional units, launched a counterattack, inflicting losses on the attackers and forcing them to quickly withdraw from the area.

The past few days witnessed bloody events as a result of terrorist attacks that targeted a military barracks for the southern forces, leaving dozens dead and wounded, while the commander of the security belt in Al-Mahfad was martyred in another operation, during a confrontation with terrorist elements who attempted to camouflage themselves and move through the Amgoz point in the Mudiya district of Abyan Governorate
