The authorities in Hadramaut, Socotra and the Sultanate of Oman announced today, Saturday, that Tropical Storm “Tej” has developed into a first-degree hurricane.
According to what the Early Warning Center reported, the wind speed around the hurricane center reached 65 knots, equivalent to 120 kilometers per hour, and the atmospheric pressure decreased to 988 millibars.
The Early Warning Center expected that the eye center of Tropical Cyclone “Tej” would pass directly over the Socotra Island archipelago by Sunday dawn..
The direct impact on the coasts of the southeastern governorates is expected to begin on Sunday evening.
The center added that the hurricane is still affecting Socotra Island, and is expected to head towards the coast of the Sultanate of Oman in the coming hours.
The Omani and Yemeni authorities warned citizens and residents in areas expected to be affected by the hurricane of the dangers of strong winds and heavy rains that may cause floods.
