Six members of one family were killed in the early hours of Friday, August 23, 2024, as a result of the collapse of their house in the village of Shamsan in the Al-Sabt District, Al-Mahwit Governorate. Continuous heavy rains in recent days weakened the structure of the house, causing the roof to collapse on its occupants while they were sleeping.
Local sources confirmed that the victims were the head of the family, Hassan Al-Droubi, his wife, three of his daughters, and his young child. The incident was discovered when a neighbor heard the sound of the collapse, and rushed to inform the village residents, who rushed to the site in an attempt to find survivors under the rubble.
Despite the arrival of the ambulance from Al-Khabt Rural Hospital, all family members died before paramedics could save them.
The incident caused deep sadness in the village and refocused on the importance of maintaining homes in areas prone to floods and landslides. The sources called for urgent measures to be taken to protect lives and property in such circumstances.
The region also witnessed a similar incident yesterday, Thursday, where an old three-story house collapsed in the village of Al-Qanaa in the Jabal Al-Mahwit District, but it was abandoned and did not result in any human casualties.
