Today, the city of Aden witnessed protests, due to the worsening water crisis that the Crater and Al-Mualla neighborhoods have been suffering from for years. The protesters raised banners demanding the provision of fair and adequate water, and the repair of corroded distribution networks, during a protest in front of the city’s water corporation.
The demonstrators stressed that the frequent water outages and poor quality have greatly affected their daily lives, causing the spread of diseases and epidemics, and hindering economic and social activities.
One of the protesters said: “We live in a city rich in water, yet we suffer from thirst. This is unacceptable. We demand that officials assume their responsibilities and resolve this long-standing crisis.”
For his part, an official source at the General Corporation for Water and Sanitation confirmed that efforts are being made to solve the problem, and that there are ambitious plans to develop the infrastructure of the water sector.
