The United Nations warned, on Sunday, of the possible effects of Cyclone Tej on the Socotra Archipelago and Al-Mahra Governorate.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said in a climate bulletin that Cyclone Storm A05, or Tropical Storm Tej, is affecting Socotra.
The United Nations added that it is expected to develop into a severe cyclonic storm with potential impacts on Al-Mahra in Yemen.
She continued, “Humanitarian affairs managers and decision makers are advised to take Tropical Storm Tej into account in their plans.”
The organization also advised all fishermen in the Arabian Sea to refrain from fishing during this period.
In this context, local sources reported, at dawn on Sunday, heavy rains in Socotra, accompanied by storms and large torrential rains, amid reports of high levels of waves in the sea and rock slides.
On Saturday, the Early Warning Center in Hadramaut reported that the tropical cyclone in the Arabian Sea had turned into a third category, with wind speeds around the center of 105 knots, and the environment was still suitable for it to reach the fourth and fifth categories, which is the maximum.
