The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, concluded a visit to the Omani capital, Muscat, where he met with senior Omani officials and the spokesman for the Houthi militia, Mohammed Abdul Salam.
This visit comes within the framework of the United Nations’ ongoing efforts to reach a peaceful solution to the Yemeni crisis that began nearly a decade ago.
During his meetings, Grundberg expressed his appreciation for the Omani role in supporting United Nations efforts to promote peace and stability in Yemen.
The UN envoy stressed the urgent need to reduce the military escalation throughout Yemen, stressing the need to put the interests of the Yemeni people at the top of priorities, and Grundberg issued a call to all Yemeni parties to engage in a “constructive dialogue” that contributes to ending the conflict and achieving lasting peace.< /p>
Grundberg renewed the urgent call on the UN Secretary-General for the immediate and unconditional release of UN staff detained by the Houthi militia in Sanaa.
It should be noted that this visit comes at a sensitive time when international pressure is increasing on the parties to the conflict to reach political solutions to end the war that has been ongoing for years and has led to one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
