Cyclone "Tej" struck east of Socotra Island this evening, causing extensive damage to homes and roads.
Local sources reported that seawater entered citizens' homes in the 14th of October neighborhood in the city of Hadibo, the capital of the governorate, and 13 families were evacuated to one of the homes.
The sources indicated that the floods caused the cutting of the eastern line linking the governorate’s capital to the eastern regions, which is approximately 2 kilometers from the eastern neighborhoods.
There is no information available yet about the damage to the eastern regions, which had a greater impact on the hurricane, as the hurricane touched Socotra from the eastern side.
The local authorities in Socotra had declared a state of maximum alert in anticipation of the arrival of the hurricane, and called on citizens not to leave their homes except in cases of extreme necessity.
