Officials and local sources in Yemen said on Saturday that at least 27 people were killed and two were missing during the past hours as a result of torrential torrents, floods, and rockslides resulting from heavy rains in Dhamar Governorate, northern Yemen.
Ahmed Jaber, Undersecretary of the Information Sector at the Ministry of Local Administration in the Houthi government, which is not recognized internationally, said that the floods in the village of Al-Jarf in the Bani Musa region of the Wasab Al-Safil District resulted in the injury of eight people and the demolition of 15 homes.
Dhamar is 100 kilometers south of Sanaa, which is controlled by the Houthis.
Since the beginning of this August, the amount of heavy rain has increased in several governorates in Yemen, causing torrents and floods that left dozens dead in addition to severe material damage.
Governmental and international reports indicated that nearly a quarter of a million people were affected, especially those living in displacement camps.
