Recent photos from the city of Al-Houta showed the extent of the damage caused by the recent heavy rains that fell on the area, as water flooded many homes and caused material damage to residents. Painful images reveal scenes of some homes drowning under rainwater, while water infiltrated other homes, forcing some to evacuate their homes.
These pictures, which we monitored, show the extent of the damage to residents’ homes, as they show furniture, mattresses, and personal belongings floating on top of the water, and some homes have sewage entering them due to the strong flow of water. The pictures also showed the suffering of elderly people trying to extract water from their homes using primitive means.
These scenes reflect the weakness of the infrastructure in the city of Al-Houta and the inability of the sewage networks to absorb the huge amounts of water, which increased the suffering of the residents. This incident represents an urgent call for local authorities to improve sanitation systems and infrastructure, and to work on developing emergency plans to deal with such natural disasters.
