The Houthi militia kidnapped activist Sahar Abdul-Ilah Al-Khawlani from the capital, Sanaa, and took her to an unknown location in a new escalation of human rights violations.
Local sources reported that the kidnapping was carried out by members of the Houthi Security and Intelligence Service, supported by a group of "Zeinabiyyat" (the group's women's police). This incident comes as an attack on Yemeni customs and traditions that criminalize targeting women, in light of the difficult circumstances the country is going through.
The sources stated that Al-Khawlani’s kidnapping came against the backdrop of her public criticism of the militia’s policies, as she condemned the racial discrimination practiced by the group, and demanded the payment of the salaries of employees it has been detaining for nearly nine years.
This crime is part of an ongoing repressive campaign by the Houthis against male and female activists in the areas they control, in an attempt to silence voices opposing their repressive policies.
