A new electricity crisis is looming in the capital, Aden, after the fuel tankers of the President PetroMasila station were seized by tribesmen in Abyan Governorate, against the backdrop of protests over the kidnapping of Al-Fandam Ali Ashal. As a result of this detention, the Aden Electricity Corporation warned that the station would soon run out of fuel, threatening its complete shutdown in the coming hours.
Aden Electricity launched an urgent appeal to the tribes of Abyan Governorate and all reasonable people there to intervene immediately and allow the passage of crude oil tankers, stressing that their continued detention will lead to an increase in the hours of power outages in the governorates of Aden, Abyan, Lahj, and Al Dhalea, which will cause additional suffering to citizens in light of the hot and humid weather. The high levels that the region is currently witnessing.
This detention comes at a critical time that may worsen living conditions in those governorates, as large areas depend on electricity produced by the PetroMasila station.
