During the meeting, arrangements for the restoration of the fishing port’s 530-meter pier designated for docking fishing vessels of various sizes were discussed. Minister Socotra listened to a briefing from the UNDP team and the consulting company preparing technical studies for the rehabilitation of the fishing port on the level of progress achieved in all stages of the studies. The construction and technical projects that were implemented in order to rehabilitate the port quay and its related infrastructure, which are to be rehabilitated within the framework of the project, and the meeting resulted in the formation of a joint engineering team that includes international and local experts from the Ministry and the United Nations Development Program to review the technical studies related to the rehabilitation of the port quay, which were prepared by the consulting company in order to take them into consideration. During implementation, with the aim of accelerating implementation and avoiding any obstacles that the project may face.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Socotra stressed the necessity of accelerating the implementation of the port rehabilitation project and committing to completing these works according to the prepared time plan, explaining the importance of its rehabilitation in strengthening the infrastructure and achieving sustainable development in the fish sector, stressing his keenness to overcome any difficulties facing the implementation of the project, praising the efforts. The meeting also discussed the mechanism of work for recovering sunken ships in the fishing port basin, 60% of which were recovered, as well as the facilities provided by the Ministry to speed up the recovery process. It was also agreed to redouble efforts and set a time period for completing all ship recovery work to facilitate Wharf restoration work.
