Ten citizens were killed and three from one family were injured, on Friday, as a result of a traffic accident in the Wasab Al-Aali District, west of the Yemeni city of Dhamar, 100 kilometers south of Sanaa.
Local and medical sources in Dhamar said that a car driven by a doctor named “Fouad Al-Karifi” overturned on the main road linking the city of Dhamar and the town of Al-Husseiniyah in the Wasab District, west of the governorate.
The sources explained that the car was carrying a family of 13 people who were on their way to Wessab Al-Safil before it crashed, killing 10 and injuring 3 others, including a child.
She indicated that the doctor, “Fouad Al-Karifi,” his wife, 3 of his children, his brother, “Muhammad,” the wife of “Muhammad,” his brother, “Faris,” and others, all died, while the injured were transferred to a hospital in the city to receive care.
Accidents have increased during the recent period in a number of Yemeni regions, especially Taiz, Hajjah, Al-Dhalea, and Dhamar, in contrast to the accidents after roads were blocked following the Houthi war since late 2014.
The Houthi militia's closure of roads between Yemeni governorates contributed to an unprecedented increase in traffic accidents in the country, leading to hundreds of casualties per month.
The Houthis close more than 20 main roads in 7 Yemeni governorates, including Hajjah, Hodeidah, Al-Dhalea, Al-Bayda, Ma’rib, and Al-Jawf, forcing citizens to cross unpaved alternative roads fraught with danger, especially the besieged Taiz governorate.
In addition to cutting and closing roads, the lack of rehabilitation of dilapidated roads due to the ongoing Houthi war is another reason behind the increase in traffic accidents.
