Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak inspected today, Sunday, the ongoing work in rehabilitating the fishing port in the Hajif area, in the capital, Aden, in preparation for activating its activity and resuming work in it as one of the largest fish landing and export ports in the region.< /p>
His Excellency the Prime Minister was briefed by the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, Salem Al-Socotra, and a number of port officials, on the ongoing work in raising and salvaging sunken ships in the port, where 10 ships were recovered out of a total of 22 ships, and about 250 linear meters of the total were liquidated. 530 meters, and the existing cooperation with the United Nations Development Program and German support in rehabilitating the port.
They explained that the preparation of studies, designs and estimated costs for the rehabilitation of the central workshop and the central refrigerator, which is one of the basic components of the fishing port, has been completed, in addition to completing an assessment of the current condition of the pier and preparing a technical assessment on the rehabilitation of the port and infrastructure.
Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak toured the port’s wharf and its service facilities, stressing the government’s support for the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to restore the activity of the fishing port, and to carry out its services in receiving fish vessels, loading and unloading operations, and maintaining fishing equipment.
The port restoration and development project includes the rehabilitation of the infrastructure of the main facilities, which includes the port dock with a capacity of (530 m), an ice factory, a cold store with a capacity of (2000 tons), a fish processing facilities center, an administrative building, and warehouses (7 units in number). And energy systems, and the central workshop.
The Prime Minister stressed the completion of the rehabilitation work of the fishing port, and enhancing its capabilities and contribution to achieving sustainable development in the fishery sector, which will reflect on the economic situation and food security.
