Banning night fishing in Mahra and forming a committee to monitor violators

The city of Al-Ghaydah in Al-Mahra Governorate witnessed an awareness event for fishermen about the importance of preserving fish wealth from random bulldozing.
The Governorate Media Center said that the Fisheries Authority, in cooperation with the Community Awareness Committee, held an expanded meeting with local and expatriate fishermen in the Mahifif area of Al-Ghaydah District, in the presence of a number of official and social figures.
The meeting focused on educating fishermen about the dangers of random dredging and its negative effects on fish stocks and the marine environment. The importance of adhering to ministerial and local laws and regulations was stressed to prevent the depletion of fish wealth and preserve it for future generations.
He added: “The Awareness Committee and the Fisheries Authority also listened to fishermen’s comments about the challenges and difficulties they face in practicing their profession, and the increasing pressures from random dredging activities that threaten their resources and livelihoods.
The committee stressed the importance of joint work to solve these problems and provide the necessary support to fishermen to ensure the sustainability of fish wealth.
According to the center: “The meeting came out with several decisions, including implementing local and national laws related to hunting, and prohibiting night hunting for all local and expatriate fishermen.
A committee of fishermen was also formed to discuss the regulations and approve them by the Fisheries Authority and the Fisheries Union, in addition to supporting and encouraging campaigns against violators, with follow-up by the local authority.
Attendees also recommended the formation of a local force of military personnel from the region to support the campaign’s efforts to arrest violating hunters, when needed, and establish a civil committee of hunters to ensure the implementation of regulations and adherence to permitted hunting tools.
