The number of people infected with cholera arriving at Al-Jumhuri Hospital in Taiz, designated for cases of the epidemic, is increasing.
This comes amid a collapse in the health sector as a result of the war and weak support from international organizations, in addition to the lack of clean water and poor sewage networks.
The director of Al-Jumhuri Hospital in Taiz, Fouad Al-Haddad, said that the pandemic returned in October 2024, noting that more than 525 cases had been received since the fourth week of last September.
Al-Haddad added: “The wave is now at its peak, and we receive about 45 cases daily, and we have opened the general emergency for cholera cases in addition to the section for watery diarrhea.”
This increase heralds a health disaster in the city, as the governorate recorded an unprecedented rise in the number of cholera infections and deaths, while garbage is spread throughout the city, preparing a fertile environment for the spread of the disease.
