On Friday evening, the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi, witnessed the launch of the activities of the Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival in Al Wathba under the slogan “Hayakum”. Socotra’s participation added a special luster to the festival for the eighth year in a row, with the presence of artistic bands and a unique heritage pavilion highlighting the island’s cultural richness.
This year, the Socotra Archipelago participated with the Socotra Arts Troupe for Folk and Traditional Arts and the Women’s “Romansiyat” Troupe, presenting artistic performances that told the stories of the island and its authentic traditions. For the first time, the Socotra Creativity Center participated, which presented craft works with modern and innovative touches that contributed to enhancing the attractiveness of the island’s heritage products.
Socotra’s participation in the Sheikh Zayed Festival comes as an opportunity to introduce the world to its cultural heritage and present its ancient folk heritage to visitors coming from different parts of the world, allowing the archipelago to showcase its unique diversity that combines nature and culture. The festival participants stressed that this opportunity contributes to promoting the island touristically and culturally and enhances awareness of the importance of preserving the heritage and customs that Socotra abounds in as a historical value with a positive impact on cultural and tourism development.
The participants expressed their gratitude for the support provided by the festival management and the Eastern Triangle Holding Company, which played a major role in achieving an honorable participation that reflects the importance and richness of Socotra heritage in this international event.
