Last Wednesday, the head of the District Court, Judge Khalil Al-Akhali, issued the first ruling of its kind in Yemen, ruling the removal of the director of the Office of Industry and Trade in the district, Khaled Aklan, from his position, as well as the removal of the gas sales and distribution agent in the district, Ghamdan Al-Tal, from his position as well. This is based on the case filed against them for assaulting a gas agent in the district with live bullets.
The ruling also ruled that the aforementioned individuals be imprisoned for six months with a suspended sentence, and obliged them to pay a sum of money as compensation to the victim, as well as a sum of money in exchange for litigation procedures.
Media figures and human rights activists described the court’s decision as courageous, and the first of its kind in Yemen, calling for mobilizing efforts to implement the decision, and sending a message to all courts in liberated cities and regions, to correct the path of litigation and justice, to stop the orgy of all who use force and authority to attack people and their interests, and practice corruption. And victory for the rights and issues of the oppressed.
