The United Nations revealed the date of breeding of desert locusts in Yemen
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) said in its Desert Locust Bulletin: “As the vegetation dries up, small numbers of locusts and some small groups are likely to move from Sudan.” To the coasts of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden in Yemen, and in the event of more rain, winter breeding may begin on a small scale in these areas.”
She added that the locust winter breeding process will also include parts of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Eritrea and Somalia, coming from Sudan, which is witnessing the development of a very small outbreak.
She indicated that, during the middle of last October, local residents saw “small numbers of solitary locusts from the third to sixth instars, in addition to separate groups of mature solitary and collective adult locusts in two locations between Ma’rib and Safer, in the northeast of the country.” ".
It stressed the need for the concerned authorities to take all necessary measures to implement preventive control of the outbreak of the desert locust scourge in the targeted areas.
