The International Organization for Migration announced today a sharp increase in the number of displaced Yemeni families in recent weeks, as it reported that 31 Yemeni families were displaced from several Yemeni governorates during the past week.
The organization explained in a statement that increasing fears of security threats and the deteriorating economic situation have forced these families to leave their homes and seek safe haven in other areas of the country.
The statement added that the total number of displaced families in Yemen from the beginning of January until the beginning of this November has increased significantly to reach 3,060 families, which indicates a worsening humanitarian crisis in the country.
The organization warned that the continuation of displacement in this manner would place great pressure on available resources, and would exacerbate the suffering of the displaced who already suffer from a lack of shelter, food, water, and health care.
The organization called on the international community to increase its support for Yemen, provide urgent humanitarian aid to the displaced, and work to find a political solution to the Yemeni crisis.
