The Coast Guard Command in Hadramaut confirmed complete control over the fire that broke out in the sunken ship “Al-Zubair” at Berth No. 3 in the port of Mukalla, late in the evening on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
The command explained that the fire broke out on the ship, which is currently undergoing a dismantling process, and that the firefighting teams of the Civil Defense and Coast Guard were able to completely extinguish the fire without causing any human losses.
The command indicated that the initial causes of the fire were due to the ongoing cutting work on the ship, stressing that the criminal investigation teams had begun their work to determine the exact causes of the accident and take the necessary measures.
For his part, the Commander of the Coast Guard in Hadhramaut, Colonel Muhammad Omar Bamhair, confirmed that the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to safety and security standards in all activities that take place in the port, calling on the concerned authorities to intensify oversight efforts to ensure the safety of workers and property, issuing a sharp warning to those who are negligent. Stressing that any negligence will not go unnoticed.
