The inspection teams of the Environmental Health Department in the Mansoura District in Aden confiscated a group of various consumables, including drinks, juices and foodstuffs, unfit for human consumption.
In a statement by Professor Hassan Abdulaziz, Head of the Environmental Health Department, he explained that the department carries out daily and periodic inspections through specialized teams aimed at confiscating materials that are not fit for consumption. He stressed that the directives issued by Mr. Ahmed Ali Al-Daoudi, Director General of the Mansoura Directorate, stress the necessity of punishing everyone involved in selling goods that are not suitable for consumers.
Abdulaziz added that the work is being carried out under the supervision of Engineer Raafat Kokni, Director of the Public Works Office, who directly supervises the work of the Environmental Health Department. In this context, Mr. Mahmoud Al-Maflhi, Deputy Head of the Environmental Health Department, stated that the inspection teams are continuing their work within a team specialized in nutritional sciences, and that the control procedures are carried out in accordance with established principles, regulations and laws in force with the aim of protecting the consumer.
The nutritionist, Professor Bassem Abdel Karim, confirmed that some of the seized materials were subjected to poor storage, which caused them to lose their properties and make them unfit for human consumption. There are other quantities that have lost their expiration date, as determined by the date of production, in addition to materials that contain hazardous materials, such as titanium dioxide, in a number of children’s sweets products.
Health inspection specialist, Aziz Othman, indicated that the confiscated quantities will be subject to destruction procedures in accordance with the procedures established in the applicable laws and regulations. The confiscated quantities amounted to about 1,500 kilograms, and other quantities are still being inspected.
