A number of districts in the capital, Aden, are witnessing popular unrest and nightly demonstrations, due to the ongoing power outage in various areas for up to twenty hours a day, and angry youth express their dissatisfaction with the deteriorating conditions and the instability of the provision of electricity.
Young people took to the streets and set tires on fire, rejecting the current situation and demanding the improvement of basic services and immediate solutions to the power outage.
Although the demonstrations were peaceful in many areas, the security presence was intensified in Khor Maksar, where confrontations took place between demonstrators and security forces, resulting in the injury of a number of citizens.
These demonstrations and the uprising of the people are considered a response to the suffering of citizens as a result of the ongoing power outages, which negatively affects people’s lives and exposes them to difficult conditions and the harshness of the hot summer. The protesters call on the concerned authorities to take urgent measures to improve the situation and provide electricity in a sustainable manner.
