More than one million suspected cases of malaria have been detected in Yemen

The World Health Organization announced that more than one million suspected cases of malaria have been detected in Yemen since the beginning of this year 2024.
According to the German News Agency (DPA), “The deterioration of sanitation services in Yemen has increased the risk of water-borne diseases, as stagnant water resulting from floods has created breeding sites for mosquitoes, which has increased the risk of outbreaks of malaria and fever.” Dengue".
The organization revealed that since the beginning of the year 2024, Yemen has reported one million and 51 thousand and 287 suspected cases of malaria, and 13 thousand and 739 suspected cases of dengue fever.
The organization noted that climatic, geographic, social and economic factors have made the western coastal regions particularly vulnerable, and recent weather fluctuations, including rain, have contributed to the spread of vector-borne diseases, putting vulnerable communities at risk.
She pointed out that with the support of the European Commission’s Office for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection, the World Health Organization cooperated with the Ministry of Public Health and Population in Yemen to conduct a larval spraying campaign during the period from 19 to 24 September 2024.
The health authorities in Taiz announced last October that more than 4,300 cases of malaria had been recorded since the beginning of this year 2024.
