Faculty members and their assistants at Taiz University carried out a protest in front of the university’s general secretariat in Habeel Salman. This is to express their dissatisfaction with the deterioration of living conditions and the ignoring of their legitimate rights.
The protesters demanded the speedy disbursement of salaries in full and unconditionally to ensure the stability of their lives and the payment of delayed and accumulated salaries without delay.
During the protest, they stressed the need to compensate the real value of salaries in proportion to their value before 2014, improve living conditions, and provide a minimum standard of living.
The protesters stressed their demand to approve the payment of salaries to all teaching assistants who were appointed at the university without financial impact since the year 2014 AD, and to pay health insurance allowance and increase the housing allowance, in addition to settling job conditions and legal bonuses and promotions to guarantee the rights of all workers.
The faculty members at Taiz University took the first steps of escalation, represented by hanging the red badges, not submitting the results of the first semester, and starting a comprehensive teaching strike at the beginning of the next semester.
The protesting academics stressed the importance of coordination and collective action with other trade unions and employees in the liberated governorates in general, and Taiz Governorate in particular, to demand legitimate rights and ensure the achievement of social justice and decent living.
