Washington stresses the importance of continuing the UN inspection mechanism to prevent arming the Houthis

The United States of America stressed the necessity of continuing the UN inspection mechanism as a vital measure to prevent the flow of weapons to the Houthi group in Yemen, stressing the importance of this mechanism to confront violations of UN Security Council resolutions.
The US State Department explained in a statement that its envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, held meetings with partners and officials from the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism in Djibouti. The statement pointed out that the Houthis rely on land and sea smuggling networks, with Iranian assistance, to supply prohibited weapons and components to Yemen.
For his part, the Yemeni Foreign Minister, Dr. Shaye’ al-Zindani, called on the international community to take strict stances against weapons smuggling operations to the Houthis.
Washington accused Russia of providing advanced weapons to the Houthi group, stressing that Moscow seeks to achieve special political interests with the group, which hinders its cooperation with the Security Council regarding the Yemeni crisis.
