An official source at the General Electricity Corporation in Aden Governorate confirmed today, Sunday, the gradual withdrawal of power stations from service due to running out of fuel.
The source said that the stations that operate on diesel fuel went out of service a short while ago due to running out of fuel, indicating that the stations that stopped operating represented more than 70% of the total generation.
The source pointed out that government agencies shied away from their responsibilities in providing fuel after appeals made by the General Electricity Corporation.
The Electricity Corporation had launched an appeal to release the crude oil tankers supplied to the PetroMasila station, which are being held by soldiers in Abyan against the backdrop of their demands.
A small amount of diesel arrived a few days ago to cover the stations' needs, and the electricity company said that the amount was sufficient for a few hours compared to the volume of consumption.
The source expected that the stations being out of service would lead to a complete power outage in Aden and the neighboring governorates, calling on government agencies to assume their responsibilities and provide the necessary fuel to avoid this crisis.
