The Bani Hammad area in Taiz Governorate, southwest of Yemen, witnessed a horrific crime on Saturday evening, where a citizen killed his daughter-in-law before ending his life later.

Local sources reported that the so-called "Ali Abdulaziz Menhaq", 65 years old, killed his son Aziz's wife in the Yafiq Bani Hammad area, before fleeing.

The sources stated that the incident occurred at seven in the evening, without revealing the motives or causes of the crime.

Other sources reported, on Sunday, that the perpetrator committed suicide using a pistol he was in possession of during an attempt to arrest him by the security services, which caused widespread shock in the region.

This crime comes in light of the increase in incidents of domestic violence in Yemen in recent years, driven by the deterioration of economic and social conditions as a result of the ongoing conflict in the country, in addition to the lack of societal awareness and a deficiency in deterrent laws.
