A meeting of the Emergency Committee in Al-Mahra Governorate, today, reviewed the extent of the damage caused by Hurricane Tej and the authority’s efforts to restore service aspects and develop initial solutions to restore services to citizens, in the presence of the Minister of Works, Engineer Salem Muhammad Al-Aboudi Al-Harizi.
The meeting was discussed, which was attended by the Secretary-General, Mr. Salem Abdullah Nimer, the First Undersecretary of Al-Mahra, Brigadier General Dr. Mukhtar bin Awaid Al-Jaafari, the Undersecretary for Public Relations, Mr. Muhammad Mohsen Raafit, the Undersecretary for Technical Affairs, Engineer Awad Qwizan, the Director of Security and Police, Brigadier General Mufti Suhail Samouda, and the Director of the Social Fund for Development in Mukalla, Dr. Awad Salem Laqsam presented the extensive damage caused by Cyclone Tej to infrastructure and public and private property, and the reports submitted by the relevant offices on damage to public services.
The meeting approved the formation of a committee to inventory and evaluate the damages and expedite the process of submitting the report by the competent authorities.
Minister Al-Aboudi stressed the presidency’s interest in dealing with the hurricane’s damage, directing the concerned authorities to speed up the accurate recovery and limit the damage resulting from this disaster to public and private property, praising the local authority’s interventions in opening roads and treating electricity and water, reviewing the directives of the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi. , for the Road Maintenance Fund, which decided to repave the damaged main roads.
In turn, Secretary-General Ben Nemer reviewed the interventions and efforts of the local authority in the governorate, represented by the Governor of Al-Mahra, His Excellency Mr. Muhammad Ali Yasser, Chairman of the Governorate’s Emergency Committee, pointing to the continuing efforts of the leadership of the local authority and the emergency committee before and after Cyclone Tej, indicating the extent of the significant damage to which my directorate was exposed. Al-Ghaydah and Huswain, praising the efforts of the local authority and all the unknown soldiers of workers and technical teams in quickly restoring public services, starting from temporarily opening roads to restoring electricity, water and communications services and ending with shelter and urgent relief services for those affected by the hurricane.
Ben Nemer thanked all the efforts made by the administration, relevant offices, civil society organizations, security personnel, the army, civil defense, and youth volunteer teams in the rescue operation.
For his part, Undersecretary Al-Jaafari pointed out the importance of establishing a specialized team for disaster and crisis management in the governorate, the work of the early warning unit, and the necessity of developing future precautionary measures to avoid these disasters.
In turn, the Undersecretary for Technical Affairs, Engineer Awad Qwizan, pointed out the importance of conducting a study to protect roads from flood waters and the necessity of setting drainage and protection against road erosion, raising roads from valleys, and changing the path of communications lines and electricity poles.
