Meteorologist Abu Nasser Al-Babakri predicted that a severe cold wave would reach areas in Al-Mahra Governorate.
Al-Babakri said, in a post on Facebook: “After the deepening of the cold air mass over the Empty Quarter region this morning, it is expected, God Almighty willing, that the west of the Sultanate of Oman and the regions of Al-Mahra and eastern Hadramaut will witness a severe cold wave during the coming hours.”
p>He added: “It is unlikely that the impact of this wave will extend westward to include the interior regions of Hadramaut, Shabwa, Ma’rib, Al-Jawf, and the western highlands.”
Al-Babakri indicated that the effects of this wave will continue on the regions of western Oman, Al-Mahra, and eastern Hadramaut until the end of this week, and then begin to gradually fade away. With an expected drop in temperatures that may reach below 5 degrees Celsius in Al-Mahra and eastern Hadhramaut.
The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning expected cold and extremely cold weather to continue in a number of governorates during the next 24 hours.
The center reported in its weather bulletin that it expects cold weather during the day to very cold during the night and early morning in the governorates of Al-Bayda, Dhamar, Sana’a, Amran and Saada.
While the weather is relatively cold during the day to cold during the hours of the night and early morning in the highlands of the governorates of Al-Mahwit, Hajjah, Raymah, Taiz, Ibb, Al-Dhalea, Lahj, Abyan and the highlands and deserts of the governorates of Al-Mahra, Hadhramaut, Shabwa, Ma’rib and Al-Jawf.
He called on citizens, especially the elderly, children, the sick, and those working during the late hours of the night and early morning, to take the necessary measures to prevent extreme cold weather.
He urged farmers to take the necessary precautions and advised to follow instructions to protect their agricultural crops, as well as livestock herders, beekeepers, and poultry, in order to protect them from the effects of extreme cold.
