Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director of the World Health Organization, announced the failure of the latest round of negotiations with the Houthi militias to release United Nations employees who have been detained for many months, some of them for years.
Ghebreyesus warned in an urgent press statement of the danger of the continued detention of these humanitarian workers, stressing that they are carrying out their humanitarian duty to help the Yemeni people in light of the humanitarian crisis that the country is suffering from.
The Director of the World Health Organization called on the Houthi militias to immediately and unconditionally release all detainees, holding them fully responsible for their safety and lives.
Ghebreyesus stressed that the international community is following this file with great interest, and will not accept the continuation of these violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.
