Yemenis welcome 2025 with the ambition of getting rid of the “Houthi nightmare”

Millions of Yemenis welcome the New Year 2025, amid severe humanitarian and economic crises, as a result of the practices of the Houthi group, which caused the deterioration of various vital sectors, services and facilities, and an unprecedented rise in prices, which exacerbated living conditions, especially in the areas under the control of the Houthis.
The United Nations had launched an international appeal to fund the humanitarian response plan in Yemen, and provide life-saving aid and protection services to more than 18.2 million Yemenis who are suffering greatly due to economic deterioration, poor infrastructure and public services.
The Yemeni political activist, Aida Ben Laasm, explained that the Houthi group has ruined the lives of millions of Yemenis with hostile practices and continuous violations, which has made them welcome the new year in great suffering, especially with the presence of about 4.5 million internally displaced people in dire need of urgent humanitarian and relief aid.
Ibn Laasm stated that the Houthi group has been systematically destroying various sectors of the Yemeni state, since its coup against legitimacy in 2014 and its control of some regions and governorates by force of arms, which has made the majority of Yemeni families unable to provide basic needs.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Yemen during November 2024 revealed the need for about 9.8 million Yemeni children for various humanitarian aid, including food, health care, and education, as they suffer from the loss of urgent humanitarian needs, especially since Yemen is among the countries The highest rates of malnutrition are recorded, and nearly half of children under the age of five suffer from stunting.
The Yemeni political activist said: “The Houthis will not stop the daily violations they systematically practice against the Yemeni people, and therefore we are not optimistic that the new year for Yemen will be better than previous years in light of the Houthi insistence on assassinating the chances of peace, and not committing to any... Pledges, and the continuation of their hostile campaigns against relief and humanitarian workers, despite the fact that a large sector of Yemenis depend heavily on humanitarian aid.
The World Bank indicated that the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea had a severe impact on economic conditions, as they caused a decline in shipping traffic by more than 60%, and that Yemen’s economic prospects for the year 2025 are bleak.
For his part, the Yemeni economic analyst, Majid Al-Daari, explained that the new year comes to Yemen in light of the worsening political, economic and humanitarian crises as a result of the Houthis’ practices over the past years, whether related to sabotaging the economy, repressive violations, imposing royalties and taxes, or forcing merchants. To pay fees and taxes double, causing inflation rates to rise beyond the capabilities of the Yemeni people.
Al-Daari said that the Houthi group disturbs the atmosphere of any public, religious or national celebrations, and thus the Yemenis have lost the feeling of welcoming a new year, and their hopes and ambitions with the advent of each year have become limited to getting rid of the Houthi nightmare.
