The Acting Undersecretary for Technical Affairs in Al-Mahra Governorate, Awad Quwaizan, said that the road sector is one of the sectors most affected by Hurricane Tej, and is in dire need of urgent and rapid central government intervention to restore its repair.
Queizan stressed, in a statement to the official news agency (Saba), the necessity of conducting studies appropriate to the valley streams to ensure implementation and preservation in the future, since the damage occurred on the international road, which is one of the most important vital roads in the country.
He pointed out that the extent of the damage caused by Cyclone Tej was large and devastating, especially to infrastructure in the public and private sectors.
He stressed that work is continuing to open roads and remove rain and torrential debris before and after the hurricane, with support from the local authority in the governorate.
He added that the equipment of the Roads and Bridges Corporation worked to open the international road linking the districts of Al-Ghaydah and Haswain to facilitate the arrival of relief materials to those affected in the most affected areas. Trees and construction waste were removed from the flood drains and streets in the city of Al-Ghaydah, and the roads were opened.
He pointed out that equipment had been rented to initially open the “Al-Ghaydah-Hawf” road, especially the damaged sections in the Al-Fatak, Losik, Damqut and other areas, which were backfilled under the directives of the Minister of Public Works, Engineer Salem Al-Aboudi.
He noted that the equipment of the General Corporation for Roads and Bridges and other rented equipment was directed to work on the Al-Ghaydah - Dhabout - Nashtoun - Haswain road, and waste was removed from the roads, diversions were made to places that were swept away by floods, the rocks accumulated on the tunnel road were removed, and internal roads were opened in the district. Haswain to facilitate the movement of citizens and make the necessary transfers on the international line to open the road for cars.
