Women in areas controlled by the Houthi militia in Hodeidah Governorate are facing a wave of violations and harassment, in light of the escalation of systematic repression that deliberately targets them.
Human rights activist Ishraq Al-Maqtari points out that these violations are increasing dangerously, which reflects a state of systematic oppression targeting women in particular in areas controlled by militias.
In a horrific incident, the Houthi militia imprisoned Ms. Hanan Ahmed Omar for five days after detaining her at a checkpoint in the city of Hodeidah, where she was subjected to financial blackmail and was released after paying a large sum under pressure.
On the same day, the militias arrested Ms. Asmaa Mansour Rayeb on charges of communicating with her family members residing in areas under the control of the legitimate government, and she was forced to pay a huge sum of money and commit not to communicate with her relatives.
In another incident, the militia kidnapped and killed citizen Fatima Ayesh Ahmed in Al-Durayhimi District, which sparked widespread condemnation in the country.
Despite the efforts made by women's organizations to demand the protection of women's rights in Yemen, Houthi violations against women in Hodeidah continue, making them face difficulties in providing a decent life for their families in light of the difficult circumstances in which they live.
