The Aden Electricity Corporation warned of the risk of a complete power outage in the city of Aden and the surrounding areas, due to the near exhaustion of the remaining stock of diesel fuel, which is sufficient to operate the Mansoura station for only 72 hours.
The corporation explained in a statement that the Mansoura station, which is the main center for generating electricity in Aden, is threatened with a complete shutdown if fuel runs out. With the station shut down, the solar power plant will be unable to operate, which will lead to a complete outage of electrical service in the city and its surrounding areas.
The Corporation indicated that the delay in securing emergency quantities of fuel will lead to a humanitarian and service catastrophe, as vital services will completely stop, which will disrupt the daily lives of citizens.
Despite the decrease in demand for electricity in the winter, electricity remains necessary to operate basic service facilities and ensure the stability of citizens’ lives.
The Corporation also expressed its deep regret over the increase in hours of electrical outages during the recent period, stressing that the expected complete extinguishment is not its responsibility, but rather a result of the lack of response from the authorities concerned with providing fuel, despite repeated official communications sent by the Corporation.
At the conclusion of the statement, the Aden Electricity Corporation called on the Presidential Command Council and the Presidency of the Government to intervene immediately to secure fuel urgently, to avoid the occurrence of a disaster and to ensure the continuation of electrical service for citizens in Aden and neighboring areas.
