Within the framework of strengthening financial management and environmental protection in the Governorate of the Socotra Archipelago, Engineer Raafat Ali Ibrahim Al-Thaqali, Governor of Socotra Governorate, issued two administrative decisions aimed at studying the financial resources of the governorate and monitoring violations in the coasts and natural reserves.
The first decision No. (1) of 2025 AD came to form a specialized committee to study financial resources and government revenues, and determine the mechanisms for supplying them to the general treasury of the governorate. The committee was headed by the governorate’s undersecretary, Raed Muhammad Nasser Al-Jaribi, with the participation of a number of general directors in various government sectors, such as Finance, financial resources, customs, taxes, zakat, industry and trade. The committee's tasks are to analyze financial resources and improve the efficiency of revenue collection, in addition to submitting proposals to increase financial resources, and preparing a comprehensive report that includes results and recommendations. The committee must also submit problems and proposals to the governor to issue the necessary decisions that ensure the protection of the state's financial resources and resources.
As for the second Resolution No. (2) of 2025 AD, it stipulated the formation of a specialized committee to monitor violations and infringements on coasts and natural reserves with the aim of protecting the environment and preserving biodiversity in the archipelago. The committee is headed by the governorate’s undersecretary, Saleh Ali Saad, and its membership includes the director of security. General in the governorate, and the directors of the Hadibo, Qalansiyah and Abd al-Kuri districts, in addition to the directors of the offices of environment, public works, real estate, tourism, and legal affairs, Advisor to the Minister of Tourism. The committee's tasks are to inventory and document environmental violations, comply with relevant international agreements, and ensure the implementation of laws related to environmental protection, while submitting periodic reports to the governor. As well as raising problems and proposals related to the protection of state lands and reserves, in preparation for issuing appropriate decisions to protect these vital resources.
In the two decisions, the governor stressed the need to adhere to national laws and relevant international agreements, while emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the concerned authorities to facilitate the implementation of the tasks of the two committees.
These two decisions come within the framework of ongoing efforts to strengthen local administration and achieve sustainable development in the Socotra Archipelago Governorate.
