Yesterday, Saturday, an earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale was recorded in the Atma District of Dhamar Governorate in Yemen. Specialists confirmed that Dhamar Governorate is considered one of the most important areas in Yemen in terms of seismic activity.
Reports stated that Dhamar Governorate witnessed a strong earthquake in 1982 with a magnitude of 6 on the Richter scale.
This earthquake was one of the largest earthquakes that the Arabian Peninsula witnessed in modern history, as it left more than 3,000 people dead and wounded and destroyed more than 10,000 homes.
Experts pointed out that Yemen overlooks a permanent earthquake line due to its proximity to the active seismic zone in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. They confirmed that Yemen witnesses almost daily seismic tremors, but they remain below the level of feeling them by the population.
