Amnesty International: An urgent investigation must be conducted

Amnesty International called on the Yemeni authorities to conduct an urgent investigation into the death of one of the aid workers in the United Nations World Food Program during his arbitrary detention since January 23, 2025 in the prisons of the Houthi group.
The organization said in a statement, "The news that the death of one of the United Nations relief workers was killed while detention at a detention center under the control of the Houthis is a devastating matter.
The researcher in Yemen's affairs of Amnesty International, Diyala Haider, indicated "the necessity of conducting an urgent, fair, effective and independent investigation in the circumstances that led to his death."
She added that "the Houthi authorities have a long history of using torture and other forms of abuse in their detention facilities, and it is feared that this humanitarian factor has died after being subjected to torture."
Haider said, "The death during detention raises concerns about the safety and welfare of all arbitrary detainees in the Houthi -controlled facilities, including 65 people working for United Nations agencies and Yemeni and international civil society organizations."
The Houthi group called for the speedy release of all detainees arbitrarily, including those detainees only because of their humanitarian work or human rights.
