The Houthis accused of killing 671 detainees under torture since 2014

While the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grendburg, renewed the Houthi group inviting the speedy launch of the UN employees unconditionally, a human rights symposium held in Geneva highlighted the group's violations in prisons; To the torture and killing of detainees.
The symposium revealed the death of 671 detainees, from 2014 until mid -2022, in the Houthi prisons, supported by the Iranian regime, as a result of torture, medical negligence and liquidation, including 98 detainees who were injected with toxic substances and their breaths were pronounced days after their release.
The symposium touched on a report from the “Yemeni Organization for Prisoners and the kidnappers”, stating that the Houthi group committed more than 17 thousand and 600 cases of physical torture in its prisons, two thousand and two cases of enforced disappearance; Among them 125 children and 16 women, during the period of September 2015 to December 2021.
The symposium, organized by the "Humanitarian League for Rights", on the sidelines of the meetings of the 58th session of the "Human Rights Council" in the Swiss city of Geneva under the title "Horror behind Bars", shed light on the ongoing violations and torture that extends the detainees and disappeared in the prisons of the Houthi group.
The symposium reviewed “the death sentences inside and outside the walls of the Houthi prisons, and its future effects on freedom and democracy, and its reflection on freedom of opinion and the perpetuation of the idea of accepting violation as a punishment that should be attached to everyone who opposes the idea of sanctification of the ruler.”
It referred to the methods of torture in the Houthi prisons and how it became a copy of the Iranian regime’s methods, and the symposium also reviewed a certificate for the former detainee in the group’s prisons, Jamal Al -Maamari, head of the “Erda Organization for Torture and Forced Hide”.
Al -Maamari talked about the crimes and the methods of torture he suffered during his detention, which led to his permanent disability, recalling the presence of “thousands of detainees and forcibly disappeared in the Houthi prisons who are exposed to the most severe types of torment per day.”
And amid human rights concerns about the lives of detainees in the prisons of the Houthi group, the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grendberg, renewed the group to the immediate and unconditional release of United Nations employees, members of civil society, NGOs and diplomats.
A statement issued by the Greatburg office stated that he concluded a visit to Riyadh, during which he participated in the “Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum”, and held constructive discussions with the Yemeni Foreign Minister Shadi Al -Zindani and senior officials and diplomats.
In these meetings, the envoy stressed the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to pave the way for permanent and comprehensive peace in Yemen.
In the same context, the official media stated that the Minister of Al -Zindani met in Riyadh, the special envoy of the Secretary -General of the United Nations to Yemen, Hans Grendberg, in the presence of Deputy Minister Mustafa Ahmed Numan.
