International organizations calling on the Houthis to end the detention of relief employees

The United Nations and international organizations operating in Yemen have launched a new invitation to the Houthi group to release all its employees, who have been detained for more than half a year, on the occasion of Ramadan.
United Nations agencies and international NGOs in Yemen said in a joint press statement issued yesterday, Saturday: “From the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, the month of peace and solidarity, we invite the Houthi authorities in Sanaa to end the arbitrary detention of our colleagues, so that they can celebrate this holy month with their families and loved ones.”
The statement added that the humanitarian crisis in Yemen continues to deteriorate, as millions face hunger, disease and deteriorating economic conditions, and they are struggling to meet their basic needs amid conditions that get worse, especially women and children who are among the most affected, as they threaten preventable and treatment diseases of children under the age of five continuously.
While the statement renewed the commitment of the United Nations, international organizations and humanitarian partners to provide life -saving aid and protect the most vulnerable groups in Yemen despite the increasing challenges, but he stressed that "the continued arbitrary detention of dozens of employees and humanitarian workers among the Houthis, hinders humanitarian operations and limits access to people who are in need of assistance."
The United Nations agencies and international organizations appealed to the international community to support humanitarian aid based on the benefit of the Yemeni people at this critical time, adding in its statement: “Perhaps this holy month will carry hope and alleviate suffering, and enhance the global commitment to support the Yemenis.”
It is mentioned that the statement was issued by the resident coordinator of the United Nations and the Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Development Program, UNESCO, the United Nations Population Fund, the Refugee Commission, UNICEF, the World Food Program, Global Health, and the Oxfam and “Save Children” international.
