United Nations: 40% of mine victims are women and children

The United Nations confirmed that 40% of mine victims in Hodeidah governorate are women and children.
The mission stated in its monthly report issued, that it documented the killing and injury of 9 civilians as a result of the explosions of landmines and the waste of war that can explode in a number of directorates of the liberated southern Hodeidah, which are Al -Duraimi, the current, Beit al -Faqih, and Yais.
The report explained that the incidents killed 8 civilians, including two children, in addition to the injury of one woman. He also indicated that March recorded the highest rate of civilian victims due to mines during the current year, an increase of 50% compared to February, which witnessed the killing of 3 civilians and the injury of 3 others.
Thus, the total mine victims in the governorate over the past three years rises to 542 civilians, including 204 dead and 338 wounded.
Although indicated the increasing danger posed by mines and war waste in Hodeidah, the UN mission did not hold the Houthi militia responsible for cultivating or demanding it to remove it or stop using this internationally prohibited weapon.
The report emphasized the urgent need to enhance the efforts to remove mines and raise awareness of their risks, as well as providing support to the victims, and protecting the civilian population from more losses.
The mission was satisfied with the appeal of the local population, especially in the areas on the seam lines in the south of the governorate, by taking caution while moving in order to preserve their lives and safety.
