European Union foreign policy official Josep Borrell considered that the Houthis' seizure of a ship, owned by an Israeli businessman, threatens navigation in the Red Sea.

Borrell said, in a post on the “X” platform, that he met on Monday with the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, in the Jordanian capital, Amman, to discuss developments in the situation in Yemen.

The European official explained that the meeting touched on “the dangerous regional dimension of the war between Israel and Hamas and the latest developments regarding the crisis in Yemen.”

He indicated that he discussed with Grundberg the Houthis’ seizure of the Israeli ship, and considered this “a threat to international maritime safety, and directly threatens maritime traffic in the Red Sea.”

The Houthi group announced on Sunday that its naval forces carried out “a military operation in the Red Sea, the results of which were the seizure of an Israeli ship and taking it to the Yemeni coast.”
