The Aden Capital Security Department issued a statement about the unfortunate events that took place in a number of districts among groups of illegal immigrants from the Horn of Africa.
The text of the statement read:
The security department of the capital, Aden, followed with great care the unfortunate events that took place in a number of districts, on Thursday and Friday, resulting from a quarrel between groups of illegal immigrants from the Horn of Africa, before it took an escalating turn and riots caused severe damage to private and public property.
In view of this, the security services, based on the responsibility placed on them, should have intervened to break up the clash in order to preserve the lives and public tranquility of citizens, in accordance with legal rules and procedures.
What Aden has witnessed as a result of these unfortunate events requires a radical treatment of the problem of illegal immigrants, and the capital’s security administration, the local authority, and government agencies have previously appealed in more than one speech to all concerned parties in this regard, without any response.
The Aden Security Administration confirms its keenness to provide all facilities, partnership and cooperation in order to find a real solution to the problem of illegal immigration. It also renews its appeal to the international community, the International Organization for Migration, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and all relevant parties, to intervene urgently and move according to a plan. A chronic process to address this problem that threatens the security and stability of the city.
The Aden Security Administration calls on the local and international media to be cautious, to obtain information from their official sources, and not to be led by misleading sources or to spread false information.
