About 72 thousand refugees and asylum seekers since the beginning of this year

A UN report stated that Yemen is hosting about 72,000 refugees and asylum seekers in the first ten months of this year, the majority of whom, or 90%, are of dual Somali and Ethiopian nationality.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said, In an infographic, released on Tuesday, the total number of refugees and asylum seekers in Yemen reached 71,760 during the period between January and October 2023.
According to UNHCR data, the number of registered refugees until October was 56,842 people, or 79.21%, while the number of asylum seekers was 14,918 people, or 20.79%.
The data indicates that the refugees and asylum seekers in Yemen mainly come from seven countries; Four of them are African (Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan) and three are Asian (Syria, Iraq, Palestine), in addition to a small number of other nationalities.
The UNHCR explained that Somalis constitute the majority of refugees and asylum seekers in Yemen, numbering 45,797. people, i.e. 64%, followed by Ethiopians 18,875 (26%), then Syrians 2,894 (4%), Eritreans 1,728 (2.4%), Iraqis 1,047 (1.5%), and Palestinians 694 (1%). 642 Sudanese (1%), in addition to 83 of other nationalities, constituting only 0.1% of the general total.
Last October ranked first during the current year in the number of refugees and asylum seekers, with 833 people recorded, followed by August with a number 749, then September 632, May 542, February 510, July 476, March 460, January 456, and June 416, while April was the lowest with only 292 refugees and asylum seekers.
